In 1977, the U.S. Department of Transportation (under Brock Adams during President Carter\u2019s administration) mandated that by September 1st, 1983 all newly manufactured automobiles must have passive restraint systems after automatic seatbelts (AKA Passive Seatbelts) and Airbags became standard. In 1998, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, mandated that every vehicle must have dual front airbags, saving thousands in traffic accidents according to federal statistics.<\/p>\n<h2>Airbag Failure to Deploy<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Airbags can, and do, fail to properly function. They can deploy by mistake, activate during a non-collision, or fail to fully trigger when an accident does occur.
